How Primary Belt Cleaners Work in a Staged System

A primary cleaner is generally mounted against the head pulley below the material discharge trajectory. Its blade is held in controlled contact with the belt, removing the bulk layer of carryback while the belt is supported by the pulley.

The removed material is directed into the discharge area rather than continuing along the return side of the conveyor.

A primary cleaner is not normally expected to produce a completely clean return belt on its own. In demanding mining and bulk materials handling applications, it is commonly followed by a secondary cleaner, which removes finer residual material after the belt leaves the head pulley.

Wet, sticky, fine or difficult materials may require additional or application-specific cleaning stages. Where a standard primary and secondary arrangement is unsuitable, Oreflow can also assess options from the specialty belt cleaner range.
