A secondary belt cleaner, also commonly called a secondary belt scraper, removes the finer residual carryback that remains after the primary cleaning stage. It is generally installed on the return side of the conveyor as the belt leaves the head pulley, although the correct mounting position depends on the cleaner design, belt support, chute arrangement and available installation space.
The primary cleaner performs the main bulk-material removal at the head pulley. The secondary cleaner follows this stage to improve the cleanliness of the returning belt.
