Brush Cleaner

The Martin® Brush Cleaner is specially suited for the removal of fines and residue from ribbed, flighted, grooved, or chevron conveyor belts. Multiple versions are available to suit specific site conditions and budgets, providing a specialised cleaning solution for textured belt surfaces.

POWERED MOTOR DRIVE

Features a one or two-horsepower motor, depending on the belt width, which turns the brush against the direction of the belt motion.

SPIRAL BRUSH DESIGN

The Martin® Spiral Brush Cleaner utilises 0.96 mm polypropylene bristles wrapped in a spiral configuration around the hub.

STRIP BRUSH DESIGN

The Martin® Strip Brush Cleaner uses 12 brush strips made with 1 mm polypropylene bristles, designed to shed moist material that might plug other brushes.

Product Overview

The Martin® Brush Cleaner is a motorised assembly designed to address carryback on belts where standard scrapers are ineffective, such as those with chevron or grooved profiles. By utilising a rotating brush that moves against the belt’s travel, the system removes fines and residues that settle in the belt’s textures.

The system is available with various bristle types, including polypropylene, nylon, or oil-tempered wire, to match the abrasive nature of the material being conveyed. Whether configured as a spiral or strip brush, the unit is designed to prevent material buildup on the brush itself, ensuring consistent cleaning performance across light to medium-duty applications

Applications

The Martin® Brush Cleaner is engineered for light to medium-duty applications on belt widths ranging from 400 mm up to 2000 mm. The system is rated for belt speeds up to 2.5 m/s and is designed to accommodate belts with a maximum cleat height of 9.5 mm.

This assembly operates reliably in service temperatures ranging from -34°C to 82°C. While the unit is suitable for use in underground mining applications and can safely navigate mechanical splices, it is not suitable for use in corrosive conditions.

How the Motorised Brush Cleaner Works

The system operates by mounting the brush assembly across the conveyor return. A dedicated motor (1 or 2 HP) turns the brush in the opposite direction of the belt travel. This counter-rotation allows the bristles to flick material out of the belt’s grooves or off the cleats.

In the Strip Brush configuration, 12 individual strips are utilised to allow moist material to shed from the brush hub, preventing the unit from plugging during operation. The choice of bristle material and diameter allows the system to be tuned to the specific residue type, ensuring effective cleaning of textured surfaces.
