Chevron Cleaner

The Martin® Chevron Cleaner is engineered to remove carryback from textured conveyor belts, including those with ribs, chevrons, and cleats. Utilising shock-absorbing torsion arms and specialised elastomer blades, the system effectively cleans while gently stepping over belt surface obstructions.

30° OFFSET BLADES

Incorporates arms with blades offset at a 30° angle, allowing the cleaning edge to ripple over belt cleats for continuous contact.

FINGER BLADE DESIGN

Features elastomer blades composed of 14 half-inch (12 mm) wide fingers that act independently to clean textured surfaces.

STRINGY MATERIAL SPECIALIST

Specifically designed for applications where stringy materials like vines, wire, or bark tend to catch on conventional cleaner arms.

Product Overview

The Martin® Chevron Cleaner provides a high-performance solution for belts where traditional secondary scrapers are unsuitable due to surface textures or cleats. By employing shock-absorbing torsion arms, the cleaner maintains steady pressure while adapting to the belt’s profile.

The system utilises elastomer blades with individual “fingers” that independently step over ribs and chevrons, ensuring material is removed from the recesses of the belt. This design is particularly effective in agricultural or industrial settings where stringy contaminants often foul standard cleaning equipment. The unit is available with various blade materials and tensioning systems to ensure a tailored fit for specific site conditions.

Applications

The Martin® Chevron Cleaner is engineered for medium to heavy-duty applications on belt widths ranging from 450 mm up to 2400 mm (18 to 96 inches).

The system is rated for conveyor belts with a maximum cleat height of 9.5 mm (3/8 inch). The cleaner maintains efficient operation at belt speeds up to 3.8 m/s (750 fpm) and is designed for service in temperatures ranging from -34°C up to 82°C (-30°F to 180°F).

How the Chevron Cleaner Works

The system functions by mounting a series of torsion arms across the return side of the conveyor belt. Each arm is fitted with an elastomer blade featuring 14 half-inch (12 mm) wide fingers. As a cleat or rib passes the cleaner, the fingers and torsion arms deflect, allowing the cleaner to “step over” the obstruction without losing contact with the rest of the belt surface.

The blades are offset at a 30° angle, which creates a rippling effect across the cleats, ensuring that carryback is intercepted even in the crevices of textured belts. The system can be fitted with a Martin® Twist™ Tensioner or a Reversing Mount Spring Tensioner to maintain the optimal radial pressure required for thorough cleaning.

Operational Benefits

  • Textured Belt Material Recovery

Specifically engineered to reclaim fines and residue from ribbed, flighted, and chevron belts where standard cleaners are ineffective.

  • Anti-Fouling Design

Features a torsion arm configuration that prevents stringy material like vines, wire, or bark from catching on the arms.

  • Shock-Absorbing Protection

Utilises torsion arms and independent fingers that gently step over surface obstructions to protect the belt and its components.

  • Mechanical Splice Compatible

System-engineered to safely navigate mechanical splices while maintaining cleaning contact.

FAQs

The cleaner is specifically engineered for environments with vines, wire, or bark, as the offset arms prevent these stringy materials from catching and fouling the unit.

The Martin® Chevron Cleaner is designed to accommodate conveyor belts with a maximum cleat height of 9.5 mm (3/8 inch).

No, the technical specifications indicate that this unit is not compatible with reversing belts or rollback conditions.

Yes, the system is available with either rubber or urethane blades, including Martin Engineering’s colour-coded high-performance urethanes.

Site operators can choose between the Martin® Twist™ Tensioner or a Reversing Mount Spring Tensioner to maintain optimal cleaning pressure.
