ZHD Cleaner

The Martin® ZHD Cleaner is a high-performance primary scraper designed for super heavy-duty applications.

INDIVIDUALLY FLEXED SEGMENTS

Narrow blade segments flex independently against the belt to provide steady cleaning pressure across the full material path.

INTERNAL SPRING SUPPORT

Molded-in springs maintain constant pressure even on mid-belt blades where wear is typically greatest, ensuring no drop in efficiency.

EASY PIN REPLACEMENT

Each blade is secured with two nylon locking pins, allowing for fast replacement using only a hammer, with no complex tools required.

Product Overview

The Martin® ZHD Cleaner is engineered to tackle the most demanding carryback challenges on high-capacity conveyor systems. Installed directly on the face of the head pulley, this cleaner utilises Martin Engineering’s exclusive Maximizer urethane for extended service life. Unlike solid-blade cleaners, the ZHD utilizes narrow segments that adapt to the belt’s surface, providing high-performance cleaning even as conditions change.

Paired with the Martin® Spring Link Tensioner, the system provides consistent cleaning without the need for constant manual adjustments. This “set and forget” capability, combined with a rugged design that accommodates mechanical splices and reversing belts, makes the ZHD a reliable choice for sites looking to maximise uptime and reduce maintenance labour.

Applications

The Martin® ZHD Cleaner is specifically engineered for super heavy-duty primary cleaning in high-tonnage mining and industrial settings, including underground and corrosive environments.

This robust system operates reliably in service temperatures ranging from -34°C to 149°C and remains fully functional during reversing cycles or roll-back conditions. It provides high-efficiency cleaning for belt widths up to 2400 mm and is rated for belt speeds of up to 6.1 m/s on pulley diameters exceeding 600 mm.

How the ZHD Cleaner Works

The ZHD Cleaner operates by individually tensioning narrow urethane segments against the head pulley face. Each segment contains moulded-in springs that store mechanical energy, allowing every blade to move independently and maintain contact with the belt, even if the belt surface is uneven.

The system is tensioned by the Martin® Spring Link Tensioner, which is matched specifically to the belt width to ensure uniform pressure without over-tensioning. When blades reach the end of their wear life, the two-pin locking system allows for rapid changeouts: maintenance teams simply pound out the nylon pins, replace the segment, and hammer in new pins, significantly reducing chute-time.

FAQs

Segmented blades allow the cleaner to adapt to uneven belt surfaces and wear patterns. By flexing independently, each segment maintains steady pressure, which provides superior cleaning results compared to solid blades that may lose contact in worn zones.

The internal springs ensure that even the segments in the middle of the belt—where material volume and wear are usually highest—maintain consistent pressure against the belt without requiring manual adjustment.

Blade replacement is a simple mechanical process. You pound out the two nylon locking pins per segment, remove the worn blade, slide in the new one, and hammer in new pins.

Yes. The Martin® ZHD Cleaner is specifically engineered to accommodate mechanical splices safely, making it a versatile choice for a wide variety of belt types.
